Spring 2024 Classes
Wednesdays from 4:30-5:30 pm beginning April 17th and ending May 22nd
After School Culinary Program (six 1-hour sessions) In this 6-week program, we will focus on different cooking techniques, incorporating knife skills, food & kitchen safety, nutrition, and food science every step of the way. The idea is that your child will learn a culinary technique rather than just a recipe so that he/she walks away with much deeper knowledge and skill. Topics will include: Knife Skills, Emulsions, Roasting, Stir Frying, Marinades and Pie Making Skills. SOLD OUT This is a VEGETARIAN class series. Cost: $150 per child for 6-week program. Intro to Sushi So excited to be able to assist Noor and Viraj, two founding members of U of M's student club, Cooking to Connect, in this Sushi making class. With rolling mats and chop sticks provided, you'll be all prepared to try your hand at preparing Sushi Rice, rolling several Nori Rolls as well as Onigiri, traditional Japanese Rice Balls. Sweet Treats Sweet treats are not only delicious but can be nutritious, too, with the addition of quality ingredients like fresh ginger, mixed fresh berries and banana & zucchini. Pasta (Homemade, That Is!) and More This class has it all - a scrumptious menu, knife skills, teamwork, and plain fun. We'll make homemade fettuccine pasta and we'll serve that with our fresh tomato sauce as well as a basil-spinach pesto. Your child will leave feeling proud of their culinary accomplishments. Bread & Butter Deliciousness Bread-making Swiss-style will be featured in today's class. Each participant will make their own full-sized Zopf, a traditional braided Swiss bread, along with homemade cultured butter. While the bread is proofing and baking, we'll "churn" our butter and enjoy a honey tasting, focusing on a variety of local Michigan honeys - what a taste testing that will be!!! Nothing better than Zopf fresh out of the oven, topped with homemade butter and honey!! Please note slightly longer class time and age cut off. This is a NUT FREE class. Pizza Party Come to this cooking class and prepare your own pizza dough from scratch, prep your own toppings and enjoy your individual pizza. While pizza sauce will be available, you might prefer using your homemade Basil-Spinach Pesto as a delicious alternative. Each child will go home with a dozen freshly baked Vanilla Cupcakes topped with Vanilla Buttercream Frosting or Marshmallow Creme. Monday, April 29th
Emerson Eagle Corps Cooking Class Excited to gather with this wonderful group of young volunteers for our 4th annual vegetarian cooking event. The Emerson Eagle Corps , among other activities, gathers in the Sprouting Chefs Kitchen to prepare a delicious meal for the kids who attend the Community Action Network (CAN of Ann Arbor) After School Program. Kids cooking for kids! |
