Monday, October 14th from 4:30-6:30 pm Cinderella and her Enchanted Pumpkin Tartlets In today's fairy tale-themed cooking class for Lil' Sprouts, we'll be making Pumpkin Tartlets with Homemade Whipped Cream, using a few of Cinderella's pumpkins before she can turn them into coaches. Oven safety, cracking eggs, reading recipes, using a can opener and several measuring devices will be just some of the skills that the kids will acquire in this session. NEW! Lil' Sprouts Cooking Class
Monday, November 11th from 4:30-6:30 pm Strega Nona and Her Magic Pasta Pot We will be making lots and lots of pasta today! Strega Nona left us with the magic recipe but we may have forgotten the words to make our pot STOP producing noodles! Will the Sprouts' kitchen be full of pasta at pick up time? Come learn about different types of flours, how to hand knead pasta dough, use a pasta machine all while enjoying a delicious meal of fresh pasta tossed in olive oil and parmesan cheese. Intro to Sushi So excited to be able to once again assist Noor, one of the founding members of U of M's student club, Cooking to Connect, in this Sushi making class. With rolling mats and chop sticks provided, you'll be all prepared to try your hand at preparing Sushi Rice, rolling several Nori Rolls as well as Onigiri, traditional Japanese Rice Balls. An Italian 3-Course Menu I get hungry just thinking about this meal! We'll prepare Cheesy Spinach Stuffed Shells topped with a Fresh Tomato Sauce, a green salad dressed with our very own homemade Balsamic Vinaigrette and Dried Cranberry and Chocolate Biscotti. Pie Perfection Each child will prepare their own buttery crust from scratch to create an individual double-crusted apple pie using local Michigan apples. While the pies are in the oven, the kitchen crew will prepare their own Creme Anglaise to accompany their pies. I'll make sure they leave a slice for you! Please note slightly longer class time. Chocolate Makes All Things Better! So, in this class, we will do our best to enjoy it as much as possible. Saturday, November 9th from 10 am to 1 pm Egg-cellent Eggs! The possibilities with eggs are endless (and incredibly tasty and nutritious too!). From the simple to the not-so-simple, we'll cover it all during this class. We'll make dishes using the entire egg (individual omelets and Egg-in-a-Hole), just egg whites (meringues) and just egg yolks (classic creme anglaise served with mixed fresh berries). Trio of Breads In this class, you'll learn a lot about different bread-making techniques, and in the process make scrumptious soft pretzels (yeast bread), zucchini-chocolate bread (quick bread) and cheesy buttermilk biscuits (technique of butter cutting). Holiday Treats Baking Classes
Oh, the smells in the kitchen will be heavenly! In the classes listed below, we will be baking three delicious treats: Leckerli, a traditional Swiss spiced bar cookie, buttery-glazed Raspberry Jam Thumbprint Cookies and decorated Holiday Toffee Crackers. Each child will return home with a bakery box full of holiday treats to share with the family!
For ages 8 and older. Cost is $75 per child.
